Christian Wolz hat neue Formen des Gesanges und der Sprache kombiniert mit Musikstrukturen mittelalterlicher und außereuropäischer Kulturen zu einem neuartigen Kommunikationsmittel avantgardistischer Kunst entwickelt. Er arbeitet dabei auch mit elektroakustischen Mitteln; ursprüngliche Hilfsmittel, wie Mikrophone und Effektprozessoren und Computer werden dabei jedoch zu originären Instrumenten.

Seine Vokalkunst reicht von Glottisschlägen, Kaskaden, Kehlkopfrhythmen, Zwerchfellpulsationen über Vibrationen bis zu Rauschfarben. Der Einsatz seines gesamten Körpers als Klangkörper erschafft vokale Mehrklänge und gesteigerten Ausdruck.
Wolz entwickelte eigene Vokaltechniken, bedient sich dem psychiatrischen Bereich entlehnte Formen der Glossolalie (Zungenreden),  kreierte eine eigene Symbolsprache, bildete neue Wortschöpfungen (Neologismen) und Linguallaute.

Die Verbindungen solcher avantgardistischer Vokaltechniken mit klassischen Musikstilen und ihre wechselseitige Durchbrechung macht die Besonderheit seiner Arbeiten aus.

Christian Wolz entwickelt seine Kompositionen aus der Improvisation. Er zeichnet Vokalpartien auf, bearbeitet sie elektronisch, und fügt sie im Computer zusammen, reproduzierbar für die Aufführungen. Durch Mikrofone und Elektronik werden Klangaspekte der Stimme hervorgehoben, die im Konzertsaal normalerweise unhörbar bleiben.

Die menschliche Stimme ist das unmittelbarste Signal für die
seelische und körperliche Befindlichkeit des Individuums.

Christian Wolz combined new styles of singing and language with the musical structures of medieval and non-European cultures to form a new means of communication for avant-garde art, hereby applying electro-acoustic means. Originally intended as tools for assistance, things such as microphones and effect processors became unique musical instruments. His way of working used both methods of composition and improvisation combined into one.

The result is a huge room of association where communication is developed as a deep, emotional and pristine form of conveyance. Christian Wolz’s vocal art is a self-developed vocal technique borrowed from forms of glossolalia (speaking in tongues). Glossolalia stems from the field of the psychology and is a self-created language of symbols, new word creations (neologism) and lingual sounds. The combination of such avant-garde vocal techniques with conventional styles of music makes his compositions one of a kind.

Christian Wolz is not a vocal performing show-off, but rather a convinced artist in a symbiosis of art forms: photographer, instrumentalist, singer, actor and director all in one. For years Christian Wolz has been fine-tuning his own form of expression. Bizarre, avant-garde, experimental, emotional and intimate. An allegory of his soul and his life.
Living in Berlin, his work deals with the cycle of birth, life and death. Regardless of whether its a performance on stage, a photo exhibition or a CD, every artistic detail is a facet of this basic theme and is embedded into his complete works, which deal with daily existence and its customary madness.
